Body Session 14: Rear number plate section

Rear number plate section rebuild begins

The rear number plate section rebuild begins now that the number plate aluminium frame has now been found.

A new lower wooden section is carefully measured, cut and put in place that will support the inner rear number plate frame in place.  As there is a crack on the right side of the frame a new wooden section is also put in place to support.

A close up of the new vertical wooden section that is being put in place to support the inner rear number plate frame.

The inner rear number plate is put in place with the new wooden section behind.

The recently sourced outer rear number plate aluminium frame is continually tested in place whilst the inner frame is installed.

The recently sourced outer rear number plate aluminium frame is gently sanded and further cleaned.

The inner rear number plate frame is now in place.

Small curved wooden sections that sit under the rear number plate section and to the left and right on top of the vehicle’s boot frame is also replaced and put back in place.

The right side small curved wooden section is now back in place with woodwork replaced.

The left side small curved wooden section is now put back in place with new wood.

The inner rear number plate section is seen in place.  Also, the vehicle’s upper boot lid section is also positioned fixed into place underneath the central bar.

The rear number plate panel having been sanded down is seen in comparison to the original panel from the same location.  The hole in the original panel is clearly seen on the right of the rear number plate aperture.

The new rear number plate body panel is tested in place with the outer rear number plate aluminium frame.  Both look really good in place.

Another angle of the boot section of CRG163 as the new rear number plate panel and outer rear number plate aluminium frame are tested in place.  Will now need to find a company that can produce a new rear number plate to the shape now required.

New rear number plate bulbs will now be required.

We measure one of CRG163’s offside waist lighting apertures, just to have an idea at this stage of dimensions.

The original lighting tube holder locations are also measured to gain an initial idea of the tube sizes that will be required.

The height of one of the offside lighting apertures is measured just to provide an initial idea of dimensions.

An original lighting tube found at the beginning of the year within one of CRG163[s original lighting aperture which laid hidden for 52 years is held up against one of the apertures to gain an idea of size required.  We are also presently considering the lighting required as we move closer to complete CRG163’a restoration.

Presently being considered

  • A company producing a new rear number plate to the desired shape ill be required
  • New rear number plate bulbs will be needed
  • We are presently considering what lighting and sizing will be best for CRG163’s waist light apertures which will range from fluorescent tubes to keep originality or LED.

The search continues for other parts.
