Body Session 16: Day 2 - Entrance door panels now finished with door poles primed
The panels surrounding the entrance door of CRG163 are now fixed permanently into place including the nose of the entrance step. The top front section is temporarily put in place as new vinyl will be needed for the first entrance step before the top front section can be foxed permanently in place.
As always, Sion’s meticulous approach an precision pays dividend as all panels fit perfectly in place.
Today we also repair the damaged internal internal vinyl to the left and right of the entrance step and prepare the poles that hold the entrance ‘express’ doors in place.
Preparing the doors involved removing the old paint carefully which included red wine, cream and National Bus Company (NBC) green with the side of a small chisel before sanding down.
Sion takes a photograph of me sanding the first entrance door pole in preparation for priming and painting.
The lower section of the first entrance door pole to be treated with lower clamps removed for further treatment.
The top section of the same entrance door pole being treated.
The clamps and large washer from the lower section of the first entrance door pole being sanded.
Tempted to say that Sion looks dangerous with a drill in his hand. Actually it is quite the opposite. It is a privilege to watch Sion in his meticulous approach and precision.
Now onto the second entrance door pole as I repeated the earlier process of carefully removing 55 years of paint with the corner of a small chisel.
The many colours of the second door entrance pole in the same way as the first pole treated earlier.
I tend to steer away of biscuits these days, but couldn’t resist a small treat from Sion with a cup of tea for me and coffee for Sion late afternoon.
Sion and I seen standing on a raised step next to CRG163. The glasses I am wearing during our sessions are old reading glasses, simply to protect my real day to day glasses from potential damage.
Both entrance door poles have now been sanded in preperation for priming. It is however beginning to get dark as we continue.
Sion is caught on camera putting the final touches into the entrance step nose section once content with the final positioning of the side panels each side. Numerous panels and woodwork sections now come together and fit perfectly. A testament to Sion’s care and precision.
The left door brush is temporarily put in place to check that everything first as we move carefully through each step of build back.
The entrance section of CRG163 now looks amazing as the right side door brush is also added into place, albeit temporarily. A lot of time has been spent on this section of the vehicle, simply to ensure that the end result is perfect.
As many will recall, a new wooden section was carefully added vertically to this section of the vehicle. Bodywork is now closed back into place in preparation for the vehicle’s nearside mirror housing and brightwork.
A closer look as bodywork is now put back into place.
Both entrance door poles are fixed on a crate for ease of spraying as primer is added in preparation for paint.
The search continues for other parts.
