Body Session 16: Day 3 - Undercoating & emergency door step woodwork
Today undercoat painting commences on the inside entrance door pillars as well as the poles that will hold the express entrance doors. We also undercoat the panel above the entrance door as well as building back the woodwork around the offside rear emergency exit step and panel.
The folded panel above the passenger door entrance is sanded down in preparation for paint.
The rear of both vertical door brushes that sit either side of the passenger entrance are also cleaned and sanded down.
I can’t help but take photographs of new entrance step and fixed body panels surrounding the vehicle’s entrance as well as the red front bulkhead and driver cab door. The whole section looks fresh and clean. We now need to march the red paint.
Another angle of the completed entrance door section, this time in daylight. It’s brilliant to see the vehicle now coming together.
A photo of Sion standing next to CRG163. His expertise is truly outstanding.
The smile on my face says it all.
Sion is seen here making adjustments to the offside rear emergency door entrance step in order to make sure that everything fits perfectly as always.
Whilst Sion moves to the woodwork that supports the offside rear emergency door step and panel, I begin to apply the undercoat to the internal entrance door frame.
I also take the opportunity to paint the undercoat to the entrance express door poles. We’re very pleased with their appearance.
Another image of CRG163’s passenger door entrance.
A section of the original front entrance step lino is cleaned in order to try and work out the original colour so that a replacement can be found.
The first undercoat on the entrance door frame is applied whilst the folded panel above the door is tried in tested in place before it is painted.
A quick photograph of Sion working his woodwork magic as always. Rather than provide smaller pieces of wood around the offside rear emergency door stop as original, Sion makes a number of improvements in strengthening this section of the vehicle.
Sion is see here testing the offside rear emergency door step within the body panels. A number of tests and adjustments are undertaken by Sion as always as he carefully and meticulously rebuilds the section.
Undercoat paint is now applied to the folded panel that sits above the vehicle’s entrance door. Whilst a section of this will remain hidden, the sides are painted still the same.
The offside rear emergency door step is seen fitting snuggly within the body panels as intended. Whilst this could be fixed in place permanently, this is not done at this point, in favour of completing the rear body section at the same time to ensure that everything fits perfectly.
The search continues for other parts.
