Bodywork Session 13: Day 2 - Nearside rear under panel woodwork and boot area

Today we continue with CRG163’s rear nearside under panel woodwork as the top nearside curved corner section is cut, put together and fitted to CRG163.  We also reinforce the existing middle section before moving to the boot area, replacing the long curved wooden section within the centre curved steel section and begin building back.  We however encounter a number of issues with oxidised pins and screws which takes time to remove.  This includes the removal of a small panel to the right of the boot area before it is then refitted.  We also carefully remove old pins and screws from the original rear number plate frame in preparation for re-fittment.

The new top curved nearside rear corner section is fitted with existing centre section reinforced.

Caught removing old screws and pins from the centre curved section above the boot area.

It takes time to remove all of the old screws and pins with the majority difficult to remove.

Sion deep in thought removing old screws and pins from the removed centre section which sits above the boot area.

All old screws and pins are carefully removed from the original rear number plate frame which had remained hidden until this year due to a double panel with a different shaped rear number plate in place..

A new curved wooden section is carefully measured, cut and placed within the rear centre section of the vehicle to make sure it fits perfectly before fitment.

The same wooden section is also tested against the curve of the rear of the vehicle and boot frame to make sure it perfectly aligns.

A small section but very time consuming as it is carefully removed from behind the boot area as well as the smaller panel behind.  It took time to access and then remove awkward screws.  The boot area is one big jigsaw as every part and section is connected.  We must be methodical in the way we rebuild the back section due to the number of parts involved which overlap and conenct.

The smaller panel inside the boot which is removed and then refitted with new screws.

Sion is seen here carefully screwing the new curved wooden section to the curved centre rear section of the vehicle.  Both parts fit perfectly after careful measurement and cutting.

The centre section above the boot area with the new curved wooden section behind is now refitted.

Further progress is made today as build back the rear section of the vehicle.
