Crosville Catering Services plate joins the collection

Crosville Catering Services plate

A very rare find arrives today and is added to my collection on all things Crosville.  I wonder if this was used at Crosville’s tea rooms at Loggerheads.

Crosville bought land at Loggerheads near Mold in 1926 and developed it as a popular day-trip destination, complete with tearooms and gardens, specifically to generate extra bus and coach traffic from places like Liverpool, Birkenhead and Chester. The company ran the catering facilities itself for nearly 50 years until selling the estate to Clwyd County Council in 1974. This plain white plate, marked “Crosville Catering Service” and made by H. Rock & Son of Etruria, could well have been used in those Loggerheads tearooms.

Prynodd Crosville dir yn Loggerheads ger yr Wyddgrug ym 1926 a'i ddatblygu fel cyrchfan boblogaidd ar gyfer tripiau dydd, ynghyd ag ystafelloedd te a gerddi, yn benodol i gynhyrchu traffig bysiau a choetsys ychwanegol o leoedd fel Lerpwl, Penbedw a Chaer. Rheolodd y cwmni'r cyfleusterau arlwyo ei hun am bron i 50 mlynedd cyn gwerthu'r ystâd i Gyngor Sir Clwyd ym 1974. Mae'n bosibl iawn bod y plât gwyn plaen hwn, wedi'i farcio “Crosville Catering Service” ac wedi'i wneud gan H. Rock & Son o Etruria, wedi'i ddefnyddio yn ystafelloedd te Loggerheads hynny.
