Body Session 20: Passenger door poles and doors reinstalled

Today the treated and painted passenger door poles and doors are placed back in place on CRG163. (09.02.26)

Body Session 19: Restoration of CRG163’s rear number plate section 56 years on

Today CRG163’s original rear number plate surround configuration is restored for the first time since originally fitted 56 years ago. A special moment indeed. (30.01.26)

Body Session 18: Rear body work and further painting - Copy

Today we move back to the rear of the vehicle as well as adding the final coat of paint to the entrance door poles and internal door frame. (26.01.26)

Body Session 17: Offside rear emergency door step wood work rebuild, locker stripping and painting

Today the woodwork that supports the offside rear emergency door step of the vehicle is completed with body panels tested in place to ensure perfect fit. The engine locker underneath the emergency door is also stripped down with a second coat of paint added to entrance door poles and surrounding door frame (19.01.25)

Body Session 16: Day 3 - Undercoating & emergency door step woodwork

Today undercoat painting commences on the inside entrance door pillars as well as the poles that will hold the express entrance doors. We also undercoat the panel above the entrance door as well as building back the woodwork around the offside rear emergency exit step and panel (16.11.25)

Body Session 16: Day 2 - Entrance door panels now finished with door poles primed

Today all panels surrounding the entrance door are fixed permanently into place. Door entrance poles are also prepared and undercoated ready to be re-fitted. (15.11.25)

Body Session 16: Work on CRG163’s entrance continues

The work on restoring the vehicle’s front entrance continues. This includes body panels; finalising the front entrance step woodwork; and removal of paint from the front bulkhead and driver’s cab door. (14.11.25)

The Tilling black overcoat (greatcoat) comes to light

When new in 1970, CRG163’s staff would be attired in the smart Tilling black uniform. An authentic and beautifully kept Tilling black overcoat comes to light from this specific era. (23.10.25)

Body Session 15: Day 4 - door section woodwork is now complete

By the end of today, all woodwork around the passenger entrance door and between the nearside windscreen and front corner bumper section is complete. (13.10.25)

Today we move to CRG163’s offside rear. Panels were carefully removed as always including the rear bumper for the first time from new. This revealed the vehicle’s original cream and black livery from 1970. (08.08.25)

Bodywork Session 7 - Day 3: Now we are eight!

Today we reach a historical milestone with CRG163 as we return the vehicle to having eight waist lightning apertures, four on both sides as when CRG163 was new in 1970. The last time CRG163 had eight apertures seen publicly was in 1971, fifty two years ago! (04.08.25)

This morning we fit the new offside locker support beam. The steel had been fabricated by Eifion Jones to his usual high standard, and woodwork in the same way by Sion. (03.08.25)

CRG163’s website is in the process of being refreshed and rebranded to feature more prominently the Crosville name and colours as the website includes by now so much more than just CRG163. The website has maintained a black sombre appearance for the past six weeks out of respect for our great loss. (23.04.25)
